From June 26, 2024, based on Government Decree 121/2024 (VI. 10.), organizers of motorsport and motor vehicle events in Hungary will be required to have compulsory liability insurance.

Insurance limits specified in the regulation

Motorsport: HUF 14 million/damage event
Motor vehicle sport: HUF 20 million/damage event

However, these limits are far from providing real protection. The insurer only reimburses up to the limit, so in the event of a serious accident, the organizer bears the remaining damage.

International comparison

FIA and FIM regulations:
Liability insurance limits of USD 10–100 million

Minimum in international motorsport:
EUR/USD 1,000,000

Teams and competitors arriving in Hungary rightly expect the domestic promoter or track operator to have international-level insurance.

Typical risks

Injuries to spectators or participants

Asset damage caused to third-party

Reputational damage that could jeopardize the authorization of future competitions
